In 1828, C. J. Van Houten invented cocoa powder and was the first to use the term "cocoa." Before that, no such article as cocoa powder existed. There have since been many imitators of Van Houten's Cocoa. However, the original process is still a trade secret that is fiercely guarded and handed down from generation to generation in the Van Houten family. The result is that Van Houten's Cocoa is individual and distinctive from any other manufacturer and, therefore, can be duplicated.
C. J. Van Houten and Zoon are the world's largest cocoa producers, and medical authorities and domestic science experts recognize their cocoa worldwide as the first, finest, and best.
