Cocktail Hour on the S.S. Monarch of Bermuda of the Furness Bermuda Line

The Furness-Burmuda Line operated a fleet of steamships that operated primarily between New York and the Bermuda Islands. The company opened its New York — Bermuda service in 1919, taking over a passenger operation that had been started by Furness Wilthy.

In 1919 Furness Bermuda Line was awarded the mail contract for the New York to Bermuda service. The Furness-Bermuda Line's New York-Bermuda holiday trade with older, smaller ships was so successful that it built the luxurious Bermuda in 1927.

Vintage Dinner Menu from 18 September 1938 on board the SS Monarch of Bermuda of the Furness Bermuda Line featured Noisette of Lamb, Fleuriste, Roast Stuffed Long Island Duckling Apple Sauce, and Parfait Victoria for dessert.

Vintage Menus from the GG Archives collection are representative of the menus, typically printed on board each steamship during the voyage onto a blank pre-printed graphic cover. The bill of fares was intended as souvenirs of the journey and provided to each passenger for that class (First, Second, Third, Tourist, etc.). Many survive today as delightful displays of gourmet meals served in elegant dining saloons on the ocean liners of yesteryear.
