Rare 1925 Brochure from NGI The Italian Line that features many photographs of the interior rooms of the Cabin Class. The Ship is designed to carry both Cabin and Third Class passengers with a capacity of 445 and 700 respectively.

THE S.S. « COLOMBO » of the Italian Line (N. G. I.) is one of the modern and most comfortable ships plying between Italy and North America.

Her unusual features have won for her in a very short time and undisputed popularity among the American and Italo-American travelling public.

She is not only a fast oil burner, making the trip between New York and Naples in less than 10 days, but she is constructed to insure special steadiness and equilibrium even in heavy seas.

This ship is provided with a double bottom which runs her full length and also with 11 water tight compartments reaching as high as the upper deck and which are completely independent. This feature would permit her to still float and sail gallantly even should two of these compartments be flooded.

However, the passengers’ safety is doubly insured by the up-to-date life saving boats perfectly equipped, and in number sufficient for an eventual full sailing list of the ship.

We might add, furthermore, that the «COLOMBO» possesses the very latest fire-extinguishing apparatus and one of the most powerful wireless stations to be found on any ocean liner.

The outstanding feature of the ship, however, is perhaps the artistic Italian touch, which one seems to sense but not define, as soon as one steps on board and which lends beauty and grace to the exquisite comfort and luxury that surrounds you everywhere.

But what interests one most on this ship is perhaps the unique characteristic of each of the three classes. Even the ordinary third class possesses here an individuality all of its own which appeals to the searcher of comfort.

On the other hand, for the wealthier traveler, nothing has been spared in the Single Class to create for him the perfect illusion of being in a luxurious hotel on the Continent.

The Single Class of the « COLOMBO » accommodates 445 passengers. It is situated amidships and has at its disposal large and elegant Social Rooms. The staterooms with one, two or four beds, are supplied with running water and all the comforts required of a Bed Room.

The Third Class improved closed cabin, with accommodations for 372 passengers, divided in large rooms for four and six persons, its floors covered with litosilo, is also supplied with wash basins and running water. The rooms are very well ventilated either naturally or artificially.

This class has a large Dining Room, capable of accommodating 300 passengers, a Lounge Room, a Smoking Room, etc. Its toilets and Bath Rooms are of the most sanitary and up-to-date type.

The Third Class, which was recently improved, has a capacity of 700 passengers, a large number of whom are accommodated in staterooms and the remainder in compartments.

This class has splendid promenade decks, and a special Dining Room. The Bath Rooms and toilets are up-to-date in every way.
