The aim of this little book is to present Norway to an English-speaking public in a concentrated form. It is our hope that the book will serve as a source of information ofr visitors to our country as well as for foreign students of Norway's geography.

Norway is undoubtedly a strange and fascinating land with many unique traits. It is situated farther to the north and comprises more rugged mountain expanses and barren heaths than almost any other country in the world. With habitable regions severly limited by nature, and with only 3% cultivated land, the people of Norway are faced with a difficult task in developing a modern and prosperous society. One of the aims of this book is to give an indication of the ways in which Norwegians are trying to meet the challenge.
