Vintage menus for the SS Frederik VIII in the GG Archives collection represent the souvenir breakfast, luncheon, dinner, daily, private party, special occasion, and specialty menus provided to the passengers during their voyage. Many of these souvenir menus have disappeared over the years.

Vintage Second Cabin Dinner Menu Card from Sunday, 8 August 1920 on board the SS Frederik VIII of the Scandinavian-American Line featured Frankfurter with German Potato Salad, French Marinated Beef Dish (Carbonnade de Boeuf), and Smoked Ham. A Danish Menu that emphasizes meat and cheeses to make open faced Danish sandwiches that are very common throughout Denmark and especially Copenhagen.

Vintage Luncheon Menu from 19 October 1923 on board the SS Frederik VIII of the Scandinavian-American Line featured Mock Turtle, Roast Duck, and Anchovies for Danish Soup and Sandwiches. Menu printed in Danish Only - Primarily Scandinavian dishes.

 

Our collection contains a sampling of menus initially produced and printed by the steamship lines. They are often used to illustrate family history books for immigrants from this time.
