Vintage menus for the SS American Trader in the GG Archives collection represent the souvenir breakfast, luncheon, dinner, daily, private party, special occasion, and specialty menus provided to the passengers during their voyage. Many of these souvenir menus have disappeared over the years.

Vintage dinner Menu from 21 April 1929 on board the American Trader of the American Merchant Lines featured Broiled Bluefish, Sauce Tartare, Baked Meat Pie, and for dessert, Ice Cream Melba and Assorted Pastries.

1929-04-27 SS American Trader Farewell Dinner Menu

Vintage Farewell Dinner Menu from Saturday, 27 April 1929 on board the SS American Shipper of the American Merchant Lines featured Fried Boston Sole, Anchovy Butter, Tenderloin of Beef, Braised, with Mushrooms, and French Pastry for dessert. The Menu included a list of executive officers and autographs.

 

Our collection contains a sampling of menus initially produced and printed by the steamship lines. They are often used to illustrate family history books for immigrants from this time.
