SS Stavangerfjord Vintage Menu Collection

 

Vintage menus for the SS Stavangerfjord in the GG Archives collection represent the souvenir breakfast, luncheon, dinner, daily, private party, special occasion, and specialty menus provided to the passengers during their voyage. Many of these souvenir menus have disappeared over the years.

1920s - SS Stavangerfjord Farewell Dinner Menu

Vintage Third Class Dinner Menu Card from the 1920s onboard the SS Stavangerfjord of the Norwegian-American Line featured Fried Halibut with brm. Butter, Roast Leg of Reindeer with Cream Sauce, and Coupe Africaaine for dessert. The backside featured autographs of fellow passengers.

A Setesdal, Norway Folk Costume adornes the cover of this Vintage First Class Dinner Menu from 30 September 1950 on board the SS Stavangerfjord of the Norwegian-America Line featured Boiled Redfish with Egg-butter, Roast Leg of Reindeer with Cream sauce, and Vanilla pudding for dessert. The Menu was published in Norwegian and English.

 

1953-07-21 SS Stavangerfjord Farewell Dinner Menu

Vintage Farewell Dinner Menu from 21 July 1953 on board the SS Stavangerfjord of the Norwegian-America Line featured Boiled Norwegian Salmon Parsley Butter, Roast Ptarmigan Cream Sauce Compote, and Pyramide Cake for dessert. The Cover included autographs from fellow passengers.

 

Our collection contains a sampling of menus initially produced and printed by the steamship lines. They are often used to illustrate family history books for immigrants from this time.
