New York (Ellis Island) Passenger Lists 1910-1929

Passenger Lists from 1910-1929 available from the GG Archives for voyages calling on the Port of New York (Ellis Island). The 1910s were marked by the Great War (World War 1) from 28 July 1914 to 11 November 1918. The US entered the war on 7 June 1917 following the sinking by German submarines of the Lusitania and Laconia of the Cunard Line with the loss of American lives. The worldwide pandemic of 1918-1919 also put a damper on transatlantic steamship traffic.

The 1920s were complicated by the passing of Prohibition, the economy's growth giving birth to the vernacular "Roaring 20s," and ended with the stock market crash of 1929.
