Passenger Notes

Note 1: James Allen (28 November 1864 – 24 January 1912) was a British philosophical writer known for his inspirational books and poetry and as a pioneer of the self-help movement. His best known work, As a Man Thinketh, has been mass-produced since its publication in 1902. It has been a source of inspiration to motivational and self-help authors.

Note 2: Walbridge Abner Field was an American lawyer, jurist and politician who served as a member of the United States House of Representatives from Massachusetts, and as the Chief Justice of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court.

Note 3: James Barney Marsh (1856–June 26, 1936) was an engineer and bridge designer born in North Lake, Wisconsin. He was a graduate of Iowa State College of Agriculture and Mechanical Arts in Ames. He is known for reinforced concrete arch bridges, which he holds a 1911 patent for, throughout the United States.

Note 4: Alexander Macmillan, (3 October 1818 – 26 January 1896), born in Irvine, Ayrshire, Scotland. He was a cofounder, in 1843, with his brother Daniel of Macmillan Publishers. His family were crofters from the Isle of Arran.

Note 5: John Clinton Porter (April 4, c. 1871 – May 27, 1959) was a U.S. political figure. He served as the 33rd Mayor of Los Angeles between 1929 and 1933, and ran for re-election twice more but was defeated in 1933 by Frank L. Shaw and in 1941 by Fletcher Bowron. Porter was a senior member of the Ku Klux Klan (also known as the KKK) during its popular resurgence in the early 1920s

Note 6: John Codman Ropes (April 28, 1836 in St. Petersburg, Russia - October 28, 1899 in Boston, Massachusetts) was an American military historian and lawyer, and the co-founder of the law firm Ropes & Gray.
