About Our Digitization Efforts
As with nearly all archival digitization projects, the Gjenvick-Gjønvik Archives has limited resources in which to digitize the vast number of documents in our collections. There is often of trade off of making our patrons aware of the extent of our collection with the frustration of having only a small fraction of the total collection available online. This produces a rather frustrating experience for some researchers who believe they finally found a copy of a document they've been looking for a long time -- only to find that this document hasn't been digitized.
This is the challenge we face - especially in lean times where funding levels are lower than normal. Our primary mission is to preserve the past for the future. This means that the bulk of our current annual budget is for preservation activities rather than digitization. Patrons that would like to contribute to our budget (and expand our digitization efforts) are encouraged to become members of the Archives. Help us expand our online presence by making our collections available to everyone without charge.
