GENERAL INFORMATION FOR PASSENGERS IN THE SECOND CLASS
ALL RATES QUOTED ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE WITHOUT NOTICE
CONDITIONS OF TRANSPORTATION.— The attention of passengers is specially directed to the conditions of transportation as set forth on the steamer contract ticket.
ROUND TRIP.— The round trip rate consists of the combined East and Westbound fares according to steamer and accommodations without any deduction.
INTERCHANGEABLE RETURN TICKETS.—Trans-Atlantic Passengers travelling by the White Star Line and purchasing Round Trip Tickets will have the privilege of using the return portion of their tickets by either the White Star Line or by the American Line, Atlantic Transport, Dominion Leyland, Red Star or White Star-Dominion Lines from any of their Trans-Atlantic Ports. The return ticket will also be available by the Cunard, French, Hamburg- American, Holland-America, North German Lloyd or Austro-Americana Lines, and passengers holding return tickets issued by any of these lines may return by the White Star Line. The return ticket to be subject to the rules and regulations of the line by which the passenger desires to return.
SURGEON.— Each steamer carries an experienced Surgeon who is authorized to make customary charges, subject in each Case to the approval of the Commander, for treating passengers at their request for any illness not originating on board the ship. In the case of sickness developed on board, no charge will be made, and medicine will be provided free in all circumstances.
STEWARDESSES are also carried to attend ladies and children.
RESERVATION OF BERTHS.—Berths can be secured in advance on payment of SI0.00 per adult. Berths for the return voyage also, can be secured when engaging the outward passage. When return accommodation is secured in advance, the actual contract ticket must be issued in all instances, or the reservation will not hold good.
BAGGAGE.— Each adult Second Class passenger is allowed twenty cubic feet of baggage free, excess will be charged at the rate of 25 cents per cubic foot. Packages required on the voyage should not exceed 14 inches in height, 2 feet in width and 3 feet in length. All large pieces must go in the hold. Tags furnished on applications. Passengers intending to land at Plymouth, Cherbourg, or Queenstown, should have their baggage labelled accordingly. Merchandise, house furniture, pianos etc., are not considered baggage and will be charged as freight according to agreement. Baggage must be claimed on pier before embarking, otherwise it may remain there at passenger’s risk.
BICYCLES must be crated and will be carried only at owner’s risk. The charge from the port of embarkation to the port of debarkation is $2.50 each.
DECK CHAIRS AND RUGS can be hired at a charge of $1.00 each—12 hours notice should be given.
DOGS, CATS, MONKEYS.— The charge for Dogs is $10.00 each. Rates for Cats and Monkeys on application. Birds, etc., $2.50 for each cage. These charges do not include the customary Butcher’s fee. Dogs, Cats and Monkeys must be caged before being brought upon the steamer and will then be placed in charge of the Butcher. Dogs to be landed in England require special license from the Secretary of the Board of Agriculture in London. Without such permit they will not be received on board ship. Particulars on application.
VALUABLES.— The White Star Line has provided a safe in the office of the Purser, in which passengers may deposit money, jewels or ornaments, for safe keeping. The Company will not be liable to passengers for the loss of money, jewels or ornaments, by theft or otherwise not so deposited.
ADDITIONAL PASSAGE MONEY OR FREIGHT when paid on board, should be receipted for on the Company’s forms.
BAGGAGE INSURANCE
The Company’s liability for baggage is strictly limited, but arrangements have been made where passengers can have their baggage and personal effects insured anywhere in the world from the time it leaves home against loss or damage by fire or lightning, and practically all risks and perils of transportation and navigation on land or water.
This insurance is issued in the form of Tourists’ Baggage Tickets by the St. Paul Fire and Marine Insurance Company of St. Paul, Minn. For sale by our Agents and at our own offices. Cost per week, 25 cents per $150. Maximum amount each person $6,000.
The White Star Line strongly recommends that passengers insure their baggage whenever practicable, as in the event of loss or damage to baggage, the Company cannot under any circumstances accept any liability beyond the amount specified on the steamer contract ticket.

LANDING.— Second Class passengers are landed in New York at the White Star Line Pier the same as the First Class passengers.
BAGGAGE CHECKED from pier at New York to destination. Upon landing at New York, and on application to the uniformed representatives of the Railroads who meet all arriving White Star Line steamers, Railroad Tickets may be purchased, and baggage of First and Second Class passengers may be checked from the Steamship Pier to any point along the lines of the Principal Railroads.
QUEENSTOWN DEPARTURES.— Second Class passengers joining the White Star Mail Steamers from Southampton at Queenstown, and paying less than $50 must be at that port not later than eight o’clock on the Thursday morning. Those paying $50 or over, may embark with the First Class passengers, and must be at Queenstown not later than 10.15 o'clock on the Thursday morning. Second Class passengers joining the steamers of the Liverpool New York Service at Queenstown, must be at that port not later than the evening of the day of the steamers departure from Liverpool.
TRAVELERS CHECKS.— These checks are issued at the principal offices and agencies of this Company in America and are available all over the world. Each check shows upon its face the exact amount which will be paid in foreign money in the different countries in Europe. Tourists will find these checks the most convenient form in which to carry their funds.
