Built by Cammell, Laird & Co., Birkenhead, England. Tonnage: 17,759. Dimensions: 552' x 71' (574' o.l.). Propulsion: Twin-screw, 16 knots. Steam turbines. Masts and Funnels: Two masts and two funnels. Launched: February 23, 1924. Passengers: 536 cabin, 410 third. Maiden voyage: Havre-New York, August 21, 1924. War Activities: Scuttled by the Germans at Bordeaux in August 1944. Refits: Early in 1946 was raised and reconditioned for service. She was given a single funnel in the refit. Services: Re-entered trans-Atlantic service July 1947. Transferred later to the West Indies trade. Sale: Sold to Canadian Pacific early in 1953, as a replacement for their fire-gutted Empress of Canada. Renamed: (a) Empress of Australia (1953), (b) Venezuela (1956).

A Caribbean Cruise Christmas Eve Reveillon Bill of Fare from the French Line with an all French Bill of Fare Selection that included such dishes as La Cote de Bœuf au Currant Jelly and Le Jambon Fume de Parme.
