The popular steamers of the the Scandinavian-American Line sail the broad Atlantic than the splendid modern twin-screw steamers which maintain a regular direct service between New York and Scandinavian ports.

SS Frederik VIII - 8 August 1920
Vintage Second Cabin Dinner Menu Card from Sunday, 8 August 1920 on board the SS Frederik VIII of the Scandinavian-American Line featured Frankfurter with German Potato Salad, French Marinated Beef Dish (Carbonnade de Boeuf), and Smoked Ham. A Danish menu that emphasizes meat and cheeses to make open faced Danish sandwiches that are very common throughout Denmark and especially Copenhagen.
Vintage Cabin Class Dinner Menu from Monday, 25 June 1923 on board the SS Hellig Olav of the Scandinavian-American Line featured Boiled Striped Bass with creamed Horseradish, Roast Loin of Veal Cauliflower à la hollandaise, and Ruben Steiner Cake for dessert. A Music Program was included with the menu.
Vintage Cabin Dinner Menu from 10 May 1924 on board the SS Hellig Olav of the Scandinavian-American Line featured Boiled Salmon, Sauce Mousseline, Calf’s Sweetbread à la Marachale, and Parfait Aida for dessert. The menu was published in Danish and English and included a Music Program.

Vintage Luncheon Menu from 19 October 1923 on board the SS Frederik VIII of the Scandinavian-American Line featured Mock Turtle, Roast Duck, and Anchovies for Danish Soup and Sandwiches. Menu printed in Danish Only - Primarily Scandinavian dishes.
Vintage Menus from the GG Archives collection are representative of the menus, typically printed on board each steamship during the voyage onto a blank pre-printed graphic cover. The bill of fares was intended as souvenirs of the journey and provided to each passenger for that class (First, Second, Third, Tourist, etc.). Many survive today as delightful displays of gourmet meals served in elegant dining saloons on the ocean liners of yesteryear.
