Did You Know? On January 1, 2009, the Archives will have been online for 9 full years. And that this website and its contents exist because of the extraordinary efforts of one person -- the website designer, manager, copywriter, administrator, etc. -- truly a labor of love.

The Gjenvick-Gjønvik Archives has approximately 1,000 Passenger Lists in our Maritime Collection. Our largest holdings of Passenger Lists are for the Cunard Line / Cunard White Star Line.

The passenger lists vary considerably between steamship lines in terms of information provided on each passenger. Additionally, passenger lists were often issued by Class with separate lists for the various classes while others were combined into one or two passenger lists for the same voyage.

The passenger list section will undergo a complete revision to make it easier for our patrons to find the information. We will be eliminating the majority of the one line summaries in favor of the more detailed listing providing more information with less redundancy.

It will likely take a few months to complete, so please bear with us during this transition period (November 2008 to January 2009). See Allan Royal Mail Line for an example of the makeover. ± indicates makeover completed.
