Inman Line Royal Mail Steamers Passenger Lists and Historical Archives

The Inman Line Steamship Company was established in 1850 and operated until 1885 when the assets were purchased by the American Line and Red Star Line. At the time it was liqidated, The Inman Line was reported to have made little or no money for a long time. Theis was primiarly due to having too many steamships in the transatlanic passenger service. They also lost several ships - the City of Boston in 1870 and the City of Brussels in Janiary 1883. The Inman Line Pier burned a few months later. In 1885, the Inman Line fleet consisted of City of Chicago, City of Richmond, City of Chester, and City of Berlin.
