NOTES ON ARTICLES FREE OF DUTY. Personal Effects and Household Goods, when old and in use enter free, it they accompany the owner. If the owner is already in the United States, he must make affidavit, stating steamer and date of his arrival, and that he used t he articles abroad for more than a year. The duty on old clothing, if not free, as above, is the same as on new clothing, as per regular tariff.
Cigars.—Every passenger arriving in a port 0f the United States can bring with him fifty cigars free of duty.
Inheritances, Presents from Abroad, even if they are old, and properly household effects, must pay duty.
Tools of Trade, instruments, professional books, theatrical wardrobes, are free as personal effects as above.
Watches and Guns.—Every person corning from abroad is entitled to enter one watch and one gun of foreign manufacture free.
Works of Art.—Paintings, statuary, etc., are free, if household effects, as above.
Effects of an American Citizen who died abroad can be returned free, if accompanied by a consular certificate.
